1 Introduction

The Royal Belgian Film Archive (hereafter abbreviated CINEMATEK) takes care of your privacy and takes the treatment of your personal information very seriously. CINEMATEK wants to communicate very transparently about how we treat the personal information that you transfer to us. Personal data is collected, processed and stored with care and respect, in accordance with this statement and all legal provisions regarding the processing of personal data.

You can find most of our information on our website. However, in some cases we may request some of your personal data. If that is the case, this information will be collected and processed in accordance with the law of 8 December 1992 on the protection of privacy with regard to the processing of personal data.

CINEMATEK is the data manager (i.e. a person responsible for the processing of your personal data) with regard to all data that CINEMATEK collects about you when you use one of our services.

 

2. How do we collect your personal data

CINEMATEK processes personal data of every user who registers on our website, of everyone who buys one of our DVDs or entrance tickets, of everyone who signs up for our member or student card, of all participants in one of our competitions and of everyone who registers for our digital newsletters or our magazine. We also collect personal data from anyone who books to view one of our screenings or to visit our library. We collect this data by means of online or paper forms, which clearly indicate the purpose for which we collect this data and what your rights are.

CINEMATEK may also collect information about you when you use our website or our digital services (e.g. through cookies), or thanks to the integrated social media applications on our website.

 

3. What personal data do we collect

If you register for a membership or create a profile on our website to receive our digital newsletters or our magazine, to order DVDs or tickets, or to reserve seats or a visit, we may ask you for some personal data, such as your first name , family name, your email address, gender, date of birth, language preference, telephone number or your address.

We may also collect data related to our website or the services you may use, and even your preferences, based on your participation in our events or the history of your reservations and purchases.

 

4. Why do we collect your personal data

CINEMATEK collects and processes your data so that we can provide you with the services and products that you have requested or purchased. Or to further optimize, improve and develop our services and their user-friendliness. CINEMATEK may also use your data to provide you with relevant information and suggestions based on your interests and your profile history.

 

5. Do we share your personal data with third parties?

CINEMATEK will never share your personal data with a third party or sell it for any purpose, unless you have given us permission to do so during the registration of your profile.

Except as set out in this statement and in accordance with the rules and guidelines of all legal provisions, CINEMATEK will never share your personal data with third parties, except where: (a) we are required to do so by legal provisions and guidelines, codes of conduct, or by a decision of a court; (b) this proves necessary for security reasons;

 

6. Cookies

The CINEMATEK website uses cookies. This is a text file containing a limited amount of data, which is downloaded to the device with which you access our website and stored on the hard drive or in the storage memory of your device.

CINEMATEK uses different types of cookies, for example:

  • to post advertisements

CINEMATEK will use all reasonable organizational and technical means to ensure that your personal data is secure, correct and up-to-date. CINEMATEK will store your personal data securely and take all necessary measures to protect it from loss, misuse, unlawful access and publication. However, Cinematek cannot guarantee that personal data transferred over the internet will always be 100% secure.

 

8. Access to or correction of your personal data

You can log in to our website at any time with your personal password to view, change or correct your personal data.

If you would like CINEMATEK to delete your personal profile, you can submit a request via info@cinematek.be. CINEMATEK will then inform you within four weeks of receiving your request that your request has been processed and that your profile has been deleted.
