Collection: Jan Decleir

Jan Decleir will celebrate his 75th birthday on February 14, 2021. Since 2002, CINEMATEK has released several key films from the filmography of this highly prolific actor on DVD, including Mira, De Loteling and Verbrande Brug.

Jan Decleir (1946) is a Belgian stage actor, but is better known to the general public as a film actor, and enjoys world fame in this. He was educated at the Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp.

He makes his debut in the 1971 film Mira by Fons Rademakers. He then works with Roland Verhavert for Rolande met de bles and De Loteling (The Conscript).

In 1982 he plays a Brussels forty-something who learns to deal with unemployment in Time to be happy by Frans Buyens.

One of his major roles is that of priest Daens in the film of the same name by Stijn Coninx, which is nominated for Oscar for the best international film. He also plays in Antonia by Marleen Gorris and Character by Mike van Diem, who both won the Oscar for best international film.

Jan Decleir can also be admired in films such as Toute une nuit from Chantal Akerman and Camping Cosmos from Jan Bucquoy.
